We spent $23.76 on sunscreen and got a free movie ticket up to $12, but the process was slow.

We tested this deal we've seen on stores around Tucson to buy $20 worth of sunscreen and get a free movie ticket.

The Verdict: It works, but it's slower and trickier than the instructions make it out to be. It was still worth our time.

We bought two Coppertone sunscreens at a grocery store (heck, this time of year in Tucson we always need more sunscreen stashed in bags, cars and cupboards). The total cost was $23.76 including sales tax.

The instructions on the tag were a little tricky to follow but we figured it out and texted COPPERTONE to 811811.

We got a reply to text a pic of the entire receipt, which we did.

Then we were asked to register on a website, which also wasn't clear in the instructions. We coughed up our email address on the registration form anyway.

We got another reply saying someone would get back to us in 48 hours... About 75 hours later we got another text with a code for a $12 discount from Fandango and used the code to get a free ticket, but we had to give our email address to Fandango too.

In the fine print: The sunscreen has to be bought in one transaction (all on one receipt). The deal ends June 28 and the tickets must be bought by July 31. You can only use the code for a "Finding Dory" ticket.
