Loft Cinema

Facilities manager Dave Paiz waits on customers at the concession stand at The Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway, May 3, 2012.

With weather predictions in the 115 range, we're gonna go out on a limb and say most of us are probably not doing the traditional Father's Day BBQ on Sunday.

So, we put together a list of fun ways to celebrate the dads in your life without having to face the sweltering heat.

1. The All-Nite Scream-O-Rama

Celebrate early and take your SO (or dad if he's into that) to the Loft Cinema's all night horror movie fest, from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday. Poltergeist, Halloween and Videodrome are among the movies being shown.

Horror not your thing? Bonus points for you because he'll know you must really appreciate him.

The Loft is located at 3233 E. Speedway. The cost is $13 in advance; $15 the day of. Click here for movie times.

After that take him to breakfast at Bobo's Restaurant, 2938 E. Grant Road.

2. Give him some "me-time"

"Finding Dory" opens in theaters this weekend. Take the kids out to see it and leave your man home for some relaxing time to himself, sans honey-do list.

Fill the fridge with his favorite brew first.

Hikers on the Marshall Gulch Trail in the Catalina Mountains pass many kinds of wildflowers along the way.

3. Go to Mt. Lemmon

Temps are always cooler on the mountain. It should be in the mid-90s Sunday. Yeah, it's still toasty, but if dad or hubby insist on being outside, that's the way to go.

The Marshall Gulch area is beautiful, super green and usually has some water flowing. Pack a picnic or grab pizza and cookies at the Cookie Cabin, 12781 N. Sabino Canyon Park.

Pro tip: The Ice Cream Cookie comes with six scoops of ice cream, enough for the whole family to share.

4. Early morning walk and breakfast

The Tucson Botanical Gardens, 2150 N. Alvernon Way, is open at 6:30 a.m. for those who want to get some exercise before it gets too hot. Take dad, grandpa or hubby for a nice walk through the gardens then get breakfast at Cafe Botanica on-site.

Admission to the gardens is by suggested donations until 7:30 a.m. After that, admission is $12.

Menu items at Cafe Botanica include homemade items such as Botanica Benedict and Banana-Walnut French Toast Strata. Prices vary.

5. Get out of town

Is dad a country and blues fan?

Pile everybody in the car and drive up to Alpine for a weekend of country and blues music at the fourth annual Alpine Country Blues Festival at Mellody Field, two blocks east of the highway 180 and 191 junction.

The festival takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday with performers such as Desert Dixie, Harlis Sweetwater Band, Hans Olson, The High Rollers and more.

Sunday morning you'll be treated to a Father's Day "Bluesberry" Pancake Breakfast served by the Alpine Fire Department.

Weekend or single day passes, as well as a shedule available here.

8. Summer Safari Nights

The Reid Park Zoo, 3400 E. Zoo Court, is taking its "Hats Off to Dads" at Friday's Summer Safari Nights, from 6 to 8 p.m.

A whole evening — where dad gets in free with a paid child admission — is planned around dads.

You'll learn about the zoo's animal dads — which include the lion, tapir, rhino and gibbon — meet zoo keepers and visit and take photos with Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion, Dune Sea Garrison.

What more could you ask for? Music, of course. The "Bad News Blues" will be there playing cool tunes.

Admission to the zoo is $9 for adults and $5 for children ages 2-14.

9. Hockey unveiling

If dad is a hockey fan, you can take him to the unveiling of the Coyotes' new name and logo at the TCC, 260 S. Church Ave., at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

You guys will get to take a shot against a National Hockey League goalie at the virtual slapshot experience, hang out with Howler and members of Paw Patrol. Kids under 12 can play ball hockey on the event floor. You can also take dad to a Select-A-Seat event, by appointment only. Admission to the unveiling is free.

After that, go to a late lunch/early dinner at El Charro Cafe, 311 N. Court Ave.

Hockey and Mexican food? What's not to love?
