High school students with a love of STEM can still sign up to be part of Junior Shark Tank for the chance to win scholarship money.
During the monthlong program, teams of students will develop a product from scratch, learn how to identify who their product is for and how to market it to a specific demographic. Teams will then pitch their product to a team of "sharks" who will ask questions of them in order to determine the winners.
Prizes are $5,000 for first place and $2,500 for second place to be shared among the team. A perseverance award of $2,500 will be given to the team that demonstrates a "do not give up attitude" during the program, said Lucas Miller, vice president of operations at S.Y.STEM Coalition Tucson Chapter.
The program started this week, but if students sign up and attend every session from Thursday on, they will still be eligible to win a scholarship, Miller said.
The cost is $300, however if families qualify for financial assistance, "we can be accommodating," Miller said.
