Just Between Friends, Tucson's largest consignment sale of kids' and maternity items is happening July 27-29 at the Tucson Convention Center.

You might think of it as a way to save money on shopping for the kids, but you can also make some extra cash.

You know all of those boxes of clothes the kids no longer wear? Or the toys they're too big to play with now? You can sell those at the JBF sale.

Consignors earn 65 percent of what they sell minus a $10 consignor fee. If you're able to help during the sale for at least four hours, you'll earn 70 percent.

Last year's event drew more than 3,000 shoppers and consignors made an average of $400, said Shawna Wilfert, owner of the Tucson franchise.

This year, Wilfert says they're expecting more than 4,000 shoppers.

Here's how it works.

Register to consign

You can sign up to consign up until the drop off day, July 25.

Click here to sign up for your free JBF account. Once you do that, you'll be asked how you want to participate.

Click on "Consignor".

Pro tip: You can also sign up to help out at the event, which gets you special shopping privileges.

Get your items ready

Gather all of the items you want to sell and make sure everything is clean, pressed and looking as good as possible.

Pro tip: This is also a good time to grab all of your supplies. You'll need white cardstock, safety pins, hangers, packing tape, resealable baggies and zip-ties and or string.

Stuff you can sell: New and gently used clothing free from stains and tears, sizes 0-20 for boys and 0 to juniors for girls; trendy teen-size clothing; new and gently used maternity clothing; shoes; prom and formal wear for teens; school uniforms; outdoor equipment; toys puzzles, games; baby equipment; nursery and kids furniture and decor; dvds, books, video games; musical instruments; and gaming systems.

You'll also need to tag your items using the Just Between Friends online tagging system.

"If you are short on time, tag your biggest items first," Wilfert said. "They clear out the most space and make you the most money."

Pro tip: Double check the recall list before tagging your items. JBF doesn't take items that are on this list.

Catherine Byars organizes and tags her children's clothes to get ready for the Just Between Friends sale, a maternity and children's consignment sale.

Drop off

All you have to do is drop off your stuff at the allotted time. If you want to donate whatever items don't sell, you're done. JBF will donate unsold items to More Than a Bed, a Tucson foster and adoptive family resource center, if you choose to do so. Otherwise, you'll have to pick up your unsold items once the sale is over.

Your check will be sent to you within 15 days after the event.

Pro tip: If you have more than 300 items, schedule a drop off appointment by emailing shawna@jbfsale.com
