Floor Polish is a dance studio offering fun workout classes like Do(om) Yoga and Burlesque Fitness.

#ThisIsTucson writers Alicia Vega and Angela Pittenger tried Burlesque Fitness at Floor Polish.

We've noticed some cool, quirky and different workout classes pop up around the Tucson area so we thought we'd start trying them out.

When we (Alicia Vega and Angela Pittenger, 👋 hi!) saw the Facebook post for Burlesque Fitness at Floor Polish, we knew we HAD to go. Because, burlesque.

And it's taught by Lola Torch, who performs with Black Cherry Burlesque.

Floor Polish is a hidden gem in a courtyard behind Ermano's accessed by a small street that looks more like an alley. Not gonna lie, it looked a little sketchy from the street, but when you walk into the courtyard, it has a totally different vibe.

Some background

Angela is a fairly active 42-year-old mama. She hits the gym two to three times a week where she runs on the treadmill and lifts weights. She loves the post-workout zen she feels after a good sweat session.

Alicia is a somewhat active 22-year-old. She does her recommended 30-minute elliptical workouts three times a week. She loves workouts that will make her sweat a lot and butt workouts.

On the studio

Angela: It has a cool, funky and welcoming vibe, which is good since it's such a small, intimate space.

I especially loved the burlesque music, club lights and disco ball.

Mats are provided and there's a small shelf to put your purse and keys on. I didn't notice a bathroom though, so go before you go. ;)

Alicia: It was definitely small, the studio could probably fit eight people comfortably. There were only five of us in the studio so we were comfortable. I was glad they accept cash and card because now I don't have to stop by the ATM before I go. There were yoga mats to borrow and a place to put your stuff.

It was cozy and I liked it.

On the class

Angela: It was definitely a great workout, but my dream of perfecting my shimmy didn't happen (sorry hubby).

I was expecting more of a choreographed aerobic type workout that resembled burlesque dancing. Instead it was more like how a burlesque dancer must work out, with mostly area-focused body work. You go girls! That ish is tough.

My leg and glute muscles were on fire. I can't even imagine what her "Strong Butts" class must be like. Might have to find out soon.

Fun hip swirls were involved in the warm-up though. :) Overall, I really enjoyed it.

Alicia: I loved it! It wasn't what I expected but my body is definitely feeling it today. I wanted to learn sexy dance moves but I got the area-focused body workout, like Angela calls it.

I did learn something from this class: I need to do more strength workouts. My usual cardio workouts will only get me so far.

Would you go again?

Angela: I would. It's pretty inexpensive and it was fun, even though it was different than what I expected. I wanna try some of the other classes. Do(om) Yoga, anyone?

Alicia: For sure! This might turn into a weekly thing for me. I really want to try the Solo Salsa and Strong Butt class. I'm definitely dragging my friend to a class with me.
