The Utes have been rebuilding not once, but twice, since losing mainstays Jakob Poeltl, Brandon Taylor and Jordan Loveridge last season. Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak pulled in a mix of high school, junior college and four-year transfers, creating a new lineup at the beginning of the season and then again last month when transfers David Collette (Utah State) and Sedrick Barefield (SMU) became eligible. UA coach Sean Miller says Collette is as crafty and intelligent of a low-post player as he’s seen, while Barefield reminds him of former UA guard MoMo Jones, a strong, confident shooting guard who can create his own shot at the end of the clock. Barefield is by far the Utes’ best 3-point threat, too. Power forward Kyle Kuzma is the Utes’ top returner, averaging nearly a double-double, while Lorenzo Bonam is a big, scoring-minded point guard.Β
