  • Other relevant qualifications: My first qualification is I am a parent in Vail who has had rich and varied educational experiences for my children and wants the same for all children in Vail. In the last 16 years I have served as PTA President at Acacia Elementary, Site Council Chair at Esmond Station K-8, Choir Booster Board Vice President at Cienega High School, on the founding Board of Directors for Greater Vail Community ReSources, on the Long Realty Cares Board, and as a community chair on the board for our local Desert Crown Theater Company. I have served on many committees throughout the district including a Principal hiring committee and the Mica Mountain Planning Committee.

1. What do you see as the most important issue to address and how would you address it?

Our students’ successes both academically and personally are always going to be our priority to ensure their bright futures. We have all been impacted by the pandemic and the loss of interaction and instruction that takes place in the classroom. My most pressing concerns for students are the loss of learning, meeting academic standards, and their mental health. The dedicated teachers of our district worked very hard to meet the individual needs of each of their students while teaching remotely. However, remote learning took a toll on so many of our kids. I know the Vail School District has been working diligently on programs to help students get caught up through their Reteach and Enrich Program, as well as tutoring. I recommend that the Vail School District continues to develop programs to help students get caught up. I also recommend providing students with extra-curricular resources that they can use at home, if they desire or choose, to help them master concepts with which they may be having difficulty.

2. Why should voters choose you, rather than other candidates?

I love Vail. It is my home. My family has lived here for 16 years. Our schools are a big part of the community that my family enjoys here. I have enjoyed being involved throughout our community. Many years ago, I had a desire to be on the board, but the timing wasn’t right with other commitments in my life. With a shift in my responsibilities, I am able to fully commit to this position. I want to help keep the Vail culture which is the reason many people are drawn to this area and the culture my family has been blessed with. I want to be a solution to help unify and find common ground in our community.
