WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita police say a 41-year-old woman caught trying to shoplift at a clothing store bolted when she was confronted and left her 5-year-old grandson behind.
The Wichita Eagle reports the woman was caught Tuesday evening trying to steal about $200 worth of items from the store. Police Lt. Joe Schroeder says the woman was confronted after trying to leave with the stolen clothing. She returned the clothes and then ran from the store.
He says she left without her 5-year-old grandson, who was placed in protective custody.
Police are searching for the grandmother. Schroeder says she faces potential charges of felony theft and child abandonment.
