GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say an Internet cafe in Glendale has been shut down for alleged illegal gambling.
Glendale police and investigators from the Arizona Department of Gaming served a search warrant Wednesday morning linked to an illegal gambling investigation at Mega Byte.
During the joint operation, several people were arrested in connection to the business.
Police say they'll be facing multiple charges including operating an illegal gaming facility, promotion of illegal gambling and racketeering.
Investigators have been looking into the business for several months and found it was operating as an illegal gambling operation.
Customers allegedly were allowed to pay cash for the chance to play on computer terminals that offered casino-style games.
Gaming officials say unregulated cash businesses often open near neighborhoods and can easily attract violent crimes to the area.
