SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. โ€” A man facing trial for first-degree murder in a baseball bat attack in Sierra Vista has reached a plea agreement.

The Sierra Vista Herald reports that 39-year-old Alvin Williams has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and will receive a 29-year prison sentence.

Williams' trial was set to begin March 22 after he was deemed competent to stand trial.

He was charged in the July 2013 death of 24-year-old Sean Bauer.

Prosecutors say Williams entered a house owned by his father and saw Bauer asleep on a couch.

They say Williams had purchased methamphetamine from Bauer days before and found it to be fake or ineffective.

Prosecutors say Williams then attacked Bauer with a baseball bat, fracturing his skull. The injuries eventually led to Bauer's death.
