Mountain View 69, Sierra Vista Buena 7
At Mountain View, the Mountain Lions didn’t take long to bounce back after a rough loss to Sunnyside, cruising past visiting Buena.
The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 35-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and extended it to 42-0 by the half. Senior Tommy Lawrence locked down the secondary for the hosts, recording four interceptions before the intermission on a night filled with explosive plays all over the field for “The View”.
Sebastian Spencer racked up three touchdowns and 165 all-purpose yards, Stan Berryhill Jr. added two touchdowns and 168 yards of his own, and quarterback Justice Summerset threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns.
Mountain View coach Clarence McRae was proud of the way his team bounced back from last week, saying “I think we got back to the basics of just focusing on ourselves tonight. Our kids are choosing to learn from their mistakes and learn from the things that we didn’t do right so they don’t happen to us again in the future.”
Mountain View takes on Cienega next week in Vail.
Highlight reel
Sebastian Spencer ripped off a ridiculous 90-yard run to round out the scoring in the first half, hitting the edge hard and leaving everyone on the defense in his dust. The run was Spencer's third touchdown of the first half.
Player of the game
Lawrence. It's not often you see a player with four interceptions in a game. It's even rarer to see them do it in one half. Each time Buena started to gain some momentum on drives, the Mountain Lions captain would step up with an interception.
By the numbers
449. The amount of rushing yards for the Mountain Lions. "The View" had three players rush for more than 80 yards.
He said it
"I was proud of Tommy that he didn't let last week bother him, he came out here and had a heck of a game, four interceptions — you don't do that too often. It was a special night and we're happy to come out of here with a win." McRae on Lawrence's performance.
