While they may try to throw some zone defense at Arizona tonight – the Wildcats figure just about everyone will after their initial trouble at Oregon State -- the Buffaloes are mostly committed to a man-to-man defense that is philosophically similar to Arizona’s. CU aims to close gaps and shut down jumpers within the arc, while always having a defender on the ballhandler. The Buffs allows opponents just 94.1 points per 100 possessions, the 56th stingiest rate in the nation, and is keeping opponents to just 39.2 percent shooting. The Buffs are anchored defensively by veteran guard Askia Booker on the perimeter, aggressive wing Xavier Johnson, shot-swatting power forward Wesley Gordon and also have the considerable inside presence of Josh Scott, one of the country’s top big men.
