Beer and barbecue — can there be anything more perfect in summertime?
The folks at Maynards Market downtown couldn’t agree more.
From 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 18, the restaurant at 400 N. Toole Ave. is hosting Sear n’ Beer, pairing mesquite-smoked beef brisket and mustard-glazed smoked beef tongue with a flight of beers from Tempe’s Four Peaks Brewing Co.
The menu also includes garlic marinated skirt steak, a three-bean salad kicked up with nopalitos and a pepper and pineapple slaw. If you’re not into meat, Maynards also has a vegetarian option.

- Speaking of Maynards, the restaurant and market on the east end of downtown is pouring the second vintage of its AZ Red house wine. Willcox winemaker Rob Hammelman created the malbec blend, a follow-up to the inaugural zinfandel vintage released in February 2015.

Maynards said they sold out of the zinfandel, which was available by the glass and bottle at Maynards and its sister restaurant Cup Cafe at Hotel Congress, 318 E. Congress St. The Malbec is available by the glass in both restaurants and at the market for $24 a bottle.
