Kief Manning, the Elgin winemaker who endured 90 days of near tragic mishaps last fall that ended with a lung cancer diagnosis in December, has gotten the all-clear from his Phoenix oncologist.
Manning on Tuesday reported that his doctor last week said everything looked good in followup tests.
"I got the all-clear. I don't have to go back for several months," said the 33-year-old owner of his family-operated Kief-Joshua Vineyards in Elgin. "I'm officially in remission."
Manning's medical adventures began last September when a 600-pound barrel of wine in his barrel room rolled off the rack and fell a dozen feet onto his head. He broke his neck and was confined to a neck brace.
Weeks later, in mid-October, he escaped injury in a car accident while a passenger. In early November, with his neck almost fully healed and the brace restriction lifted, Manning was involved in an accident while driving his truck.

The truck was totaled but he escaped uninjured. His doctor, nonetheless, ran tests including a CT scan to make sure. The scan showed a mass on Manning's lung that turned out to be cancer.
Manning underwent surgery in December to remove 40 percent of the affected lung.
