Pima College men’s basketball coach Brian Peabody engineered a milestone upset over No. 1 ranked Phoenix College last week, 89-76, by playing aggressively defensively; the Aztecs limited PC to 34 percent shooting, including 9-of-40 from three-point distance. Phoenix College had just swept a three-game trip against touted opponents in Texas. How did Pima win it? Tucson High grad Murphy Gershman almost had a triple-double: he scored 23, had 14 rebounds and eight assists, in one of the top individual games in PCC history. The Aztecs, 5-2, figure to be 7-2 when they travel to undefeated Cochise College on Dec. 10 to take on Jerry Carrillo’s (cq Jerry Carrillo’s) perennial contenders in Douglas.
