Hempel promoted to properties director for Airport Authority
Barbara Hempel has been promoted by the Tucson Airport Authority to director of properties, succeeding Karen Thomas, who retired.
Hempel is responsible for directing property leasing and management activities to airlines, concessions as well as general aviation, commercial and industrial tenants. Her department’s responsibilities also include overseeing ground transportation, airport-owned parking lots and the TAA’s property and liability insurance.
Hempel has been TAA’s property administrator since December 2010. Previously, she managed medical properties for a real estate investment trust from 1996 to 2010.
She has been 4-H leader and was a member of its Horse Advisory Board. She is committee chair for the Tucson Chapter of Chick N Chaps, a fundraising event for local cancer research.
