  • 7th Annual Downtown Holiday Window Display Competition: Hydra, 145 E. Congress St., took first place with its display featuring the abominable snowman and Rudolph. SHOP by fors, 245 E. Congress St., won second place and Atelier Laura Tanzer, 410 N. Toole Ave., Suite 110, took third.
  • Youth On Their Own: The Tucson nonprofit dropout-prevention agency was awarded a $25,000 State Farm Neighborhood Assist grant. YOTO strives to eliminate barriers to education and empower Arizona’s homeless youth to stay in school.
  • Pima County Small Business Commission: The commission has named its 2016 Small Business of the Year Award winners. Plum Windows and Doors, owned by Desiree Williams, was named the Urban Small Business of the Year. Vistoso Automotive Repair, owned by Jeff Artzi, was named Rural Small Business of the Year. The applicants were assessed on company culture, positive impact on Pima County and community involvement.
  • Far Horizons Tucson Village RV Resort: Was named one of the most environmentally friendly RV resorts in the nation, having won the Green Mega Park of the Year Award from the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds. The resort was recognized for its water and energy conservation and recycling initiatives.
  • MindPlay: The Tucson company, which develops educational software programs for struggling and dyslexic readers, is being recognized for making a difference in education. District Administration magazine named the company a β€œReaders’ Choice Top 100 Product.” The District Administration Readers’ Choice Top 100 Products awards program informs superintendents and other senior school district leaders about products their colleagues around the country are using to help their districts excel in a variety of areas, such as technology, sustainability and curriculum instruction.
