  • UA Foundation:
  • Chief Investment Officer magazine has named Craig Barker a winner in its 2016 Industry Innovation Awards, which recognize excellence in institutional investing. Barker is senior vice president of financial services, chief financial officer and chief investment officer for the University of Arizona Foundation. The magazine’s announcement cites Barker’s establishment of long-term effective strategic partnerships and his “radical transparency” in making detailed financial information available to donors and other interested parties.
  • Educational Enrichment Foundation:
  • Received a $5,000 grant from Albertsons-Safeway-Vons to provide Safeway Healthy Choices classroom grants for Tucson Unified School District teachers. The grants, focusing on healthy choices from the garden to the table, will be awarded to TUSD teachers in April for the 2017-2018 school year.
  • University of Arizona: Received a $2 million grant for a study to determine if adjustments to daily routines for youths with Type 1 diabetes can improve regulation of their glucose levels and enhance daily management of the disease. The five-year study will track routines such as sleep, diet, physical activity, school activity and diabetes management. It is being funded by the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. The new study, scheduled to begin in January, will track 175 youths.
