• Planetary Science Institute: Research Assistant Emily Joseph and Public Information Officer Alan Fischer were honored for their work in publicizing NASA’s Dawn mission to the dwarf planet Ceres. Joseph and Fischer are members of the Dawn Communications and Outreach Team that received a 2016 NASA Honor Award “for outstanding execution of the Ceres public communications campaign, sharing the excitement of the Dawn mission with the world,” NASA said. PSI was founded and is headquartered in Tucson.
  • Edmund Marquez: The Allstate Agency owner received Allstate’s Agency Affiliation award for celebrating 20 years as a Tucson business owner. Marquez provides auto, home, life and commercial insurance, as well as a variety of financial products.
  • Hotel Congress and Maynards Market + Kitchen: The downtown Tucson businesses were named Arizona’s Greenest Workplace. The honor is from Mrs. Green’s World, a one-hour internet radio show available at mrsgreensworld.com and iHeart Radio. Tucson Federal Credit Union earned the People’s Choice Award.
  • University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health: Received $1.5 million in funding to study cancer in firefighters from the Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency Assistance to Firefighters Grant. This initial three-year framework study will build on recent firefighter cancer prevention studies in Arizona and Florida, adding the Boston Fire Department and three volunteer and combination (career and volunteer) fire departments in Southern Arizona to the existing fire service partners, the Tucson Fire Department and multiple fire departments in south Florida.
