Bon Boutique, a home, garden and kitchen shop owned by a Tucson mother-daughter pair, is moving from its longtime central location to the Five Points area south of downtown.
The new shop at 760 S. Stone Ave. will open Saturday.
“We love this area so much,” said Crystal Flynt, the daughter of the pair. “It feels so vibrant.”
The boutique, which sells mostly handmade items made in small batches, hopes to expand its inventory of utilitarian kitchen items, cookbooks and textiles, Crystal said.
Crystal and her mother, Bonnie Flynt, had their shop in Broadway Village at 3022 E. Broadway for almost 10 years, but were ready for a change.
They began looking around last April. One day while walking in the Five Points area — the intersection of West 18th Street, South Stone Avenue and South Sixth Avenue — the mother and daughter happened to stop into the building of what would be their new shop.
The pair told the building’s owners they were looking to relocate their boutique. It so happened that the owners were planning to move soon.
“It was kind of, I think, meant to be,” Crystal said.
Downtown appears to be expanding south toward Five Points, Bonnie said.
Other businesses are opening south of the immediate downtown area — the Downtown Clifton Hotel at 485 S. Stone Ave. is set to open this week.
The intersection is already home to Five Points Market & Restaurant, Café Desta, which is an Ethiopian restaurant, the Clyde Wanslee car dealership and Philabaum Glass Studio & Gallery.
To the south are flower and raspados shops and the St. Vincent de Paul Society thrift store.
“It just feels like a really big mix of people,” Crystal said. “There’s a lot going on.”
Brian Haskins, one of the owners of Five Points Market & Restaurant, said he is happy to see new businesses popping up nearby. Bon Boutique is a “nice addition to the neighborhood,” he said.
“I’m really excited for them to open up,” he said. “I’ve been watching them get ready to go, and I want to spend all my money over there.”
Bon Boutique is planning a May grand opening and 10-year anniversary party.
