A day healthcare center for adults is now open in central Tucson.

The Regency Senior Club, located in Campbell Plaza, underwent a major renovation to turn it from a former preschool to a haven for seniors.

Owner Elaine Wozniak said the 5,900-square-foot facility will be able to accommodate about 100 people. She plans to hire up to 30 employees as members are added.

Dozens of healthcare providers and members gathered Monday for the ceremonial opening of the club, which will initially operate Mondays though Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

β€œIt’s always a pleasure to attend a grand opening of a new business, especially one with a social mission,” Mayor Jonathan Rothschild told the crowd. β€œWe don’t just want our seniors in Tucson to live, we want them to thrive.”

Wozniak, a registered geriatric nurse, spoke briefly and gave a special thanks to Bank of Tucson President Mike Hannley, who took a personal interest in the project and provided the financing.

Annual membership levels dictate the hourly cost and there is a drop-in option. Visit www.regencyseniorclub.com for more details.
