Three centers in Pima County currently offer daycare service for adults.

Handmaker’s Adult Day Care, Tucson’s oldest and largest adult daycare provider, recently moved and changed its name to SandRuby. It is no longer under the Jewish facility and can serve non-Kosher meals, said Carmeen Arias, the day program manager. The move was intended to offer more activities and to diversify its clientele.

The facility is licensed for up to 100 people and offers activities including ceramics, crafting, cooking and gardening.

Aside from senior care, it also provides daycare services for adults with developmental delays.

Located at 5101 E. Farness Drive, SandRuby is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and takes people 18 years and older.

The daily cost is $64.75 for up to 4½ hours and $87.25 for more than 4½ hours.

Senior Moments Adult Day Care in Vail specializes in care for people with mild to moderate dementia, said owner Gail Hall.

The residential program can accommodate up to 10 clients.

“I can’t understand it myself,” Hall said of the lack of such facilities.

“For the size of Tucson, you would think there would be more.”

Located at 9705 S. San Esteban Drive, the center is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and accepts clients aged 55-plus.

Activities include therapeutic massage, podiatry and individual activities.

The minimum stay is four hours a day for $60; a longer stay costs $90.

Casa Community Services in Green Valley can accommodate about 40 clients and has no age restrictions.

“Our youngest is 40 and oldest is 94,” said Rosanna Nelson, an activities coordinator. “We have people will different conditions — Parkinson’s, diabetes, stroke recovery, developmentally delayed. There’s no reason to stop living if you have these conditions.”

The facility is located at 780 S. Park Centre Ave. and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $62 for the day or $18 an hour. Reservations are required.
