After settling in with nearly a dozen locations in the greater Phoenix area over the past decade, the popular Oregon-born caffeine-peddler Dutch Bros. Coffee has finally set its sights on Tucson.
The companyβs first Southern Arizona coffee stand is expected to open in the fall at 120 S. Wilmot Road, where until this week a 6,314-square-foot Mimiβs CafΓ© stood. Oregon-based developers Cole Valley Partners razed the building and are awaiting approval of plans to build an 824-square-foot shop.
Cole Valley Partnersβ Braden Bernards said they could get the OK as early as this week, and while he has no construction timeline, he said they are shooting for a fall completion.
Dutch Bros. officials said it could be yearβs end before the store opens.
The company, founded in 1992 by brothers Dane and Travis Boersma, whose family history was largely vested in dairy farming, has grown from its birth as a coffee stand on a golf course to being the largest privately held drive-thru coffee company in the country.
The Tucson location is across the street from what has become a busy sandwich-shop/bakery corner at South Wilmot Road and East Broadway, where two popular chains β Corner Bakery and Kneaders Bakery & Cafe β opened next to one another. A driveway separates Corner Bakery at 203 S. Wilmot Road from Kneaders at 135 S. Wilmot Road.
