Dick’s Sporting Goods will anchor a $30 million redevelopment of Wilmot Plaza, on the northeast corner of North Wilmot Road and East Broadway, Bourn Companies announced Friday.

Dick’s will be a 50,000-square-foot tenant, and expects to open in the fall of 2015.

Bourn acquired the property last year with the intent to redevelop the 10 acres. “Wilmot Plaza will undergo a complete makeover including all new store fronts, parking areas and landscaping,” Bourn said in a news release.

Burger King, which has been in the shopping center for more than 30 years, has committed to a new long-term lease, and will begin construction of a new restaurant, next to its existing site, in early 2015.

“The project will eventually house an approximate 140,000 square feet of quality retailers and restaurants, many of whom are already negotiating letters of intent,” Bourn said in its news release.

Bourn has contracted with local businesses for the construction of the shopping center. Barker Morrissey is the general contractor and Seaver Franks Architects, Herschman Architects and Cypress Civil Development have been selected as the project’s architects and civil engineer.

“The project will have a significant economic impact with the creation of approximately 300 construction jobs over the course of its redevelopment. Construction is slated to begin mid-January 2015,” Bourn said.

“The initial phase of the redevelopment was made possible with support of the Vice Mayor Paul Cunningham’s office and the San Rafael Neighborhood Association who wanted to see the property revitalized and returned as an amenity to the area, after years of vacancy and neglect,” the company’s release added.
