  • , participating professor and architect, were the design team for the Barrio Collaboration, which was recently named a national SEED Award winner for Excellence in Public Interest Design.

The Barrio Collaboration began as the result of a competitive request for proposals by the city of Tucson for prototype designs for affordable, energy and water conserving housing. Students and professors working through the nonprofit Drachman Design-Build Coalition won the competition. The prototype is available for use by other homebuilders.

  • The resort was named one of the Best Hotels in the USA in the 2016 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hotel Rankings, receiving a gold badge award based on reputation among professional travel experts, guest reviews, and hotel class ratings.
  • Luis Flores III of JCPenney:
  • Flores, general manager of the JCPenney store at Tucson Spectrum, and his staff received the Operation School Bell Award from the Assistance League of Tucson. The operation provides new school clothes to Tucson school children, including some clothes purchased at local JCPenney stores.
  • Johnny Williams
  • , president of the Assistance League, said in a news release: β€œLuis beams with excitement when the kids arrive, and he jumps right in to do whatever is necessary to make everything work just right.”
  • Southern Arizona Home Builders Association:
  • SAHBA announced its 2015 Annual Awards.   • Frank Schepis:
  • Schepis, design consultant at Ethan Allen Retail Inc., 5621 N. Oracle Road, received the Diamond Spirit Award for achievement in sales, high level of accomplishment through commitment to design excellence and superior service for 2015. The award was presented by Ethan Allen’s CEO.
  • Anthony Navarro:
  • Navarro, a Tucsonan, was recognized for outstanding leadership qualities and achievements in the homebuilding industry at the 2016 National Association of Home Builders International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas. Navarro, a 2011 graduate of the plumbing program at the Fred G. Acosta Job Corps Center in Tucson, is employed by Roto Rooter.
