At long last, the rusted-out but iconic "diving girl" at the former Pueblo Hotel and Apartments is getting her makeover.

For nearly seven decades she has beckoned visitors to the swimming pool there, at 145 S. Sixth Ave. Problem was, the hotel has long since been converted (to the law offices of Piccarreta and Davis) and the swimming pool filled in - but sign codes wouldn't allow our girl to be spiffed up. Finally, last year, the City Council passed new rules allowing aging historical signs to be repaired instead of simply removed. So on Tuesday, our neon lovely began her journey to a new, colorful life.

She'll be back in a month or so.
