Tucson VA celebration includes hiring fair today

The Tucson VA is hosting a Veterans Day celebration and hiring fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Tucson VA Medical Center’s Sports Park, 3601 S. Sixth Ave.

The free event for veterans, service members and their families will feature family activities, food and entertainment. The Veterans Benefits Administration, the Tucson Vet Center and other organizations will be on hand to provide information and resources.

At least 20 employers will be at the fair, including Raytheon Missile Systems, Tucson Electric Power Co., Tucson Police Department, Afni, Pima Community College, Carondelet Health Network and Total Transit.

Event parking will be available in Lot Q, right off the Sixth Avenue gate entrance.

Gas prices continue free-fall

Arizona and nearly half the nation enjoyed sub-$3 gas prices this week as supply continues to outpace demand, according to AAA Arizona.

The average price of gas in Arizona slipped another 7 cents in a week to $2.89 per gallon of regular on Friday. The national average fell about 5 cents to $2.95, AAA said.

Tucson’s average gas price was $2.81 per gallon, down 8 cents in a week. The East Valley of the Phoenix area and Flagstaff had the low and high state fuel averages at $2.79 and $3.19 per gallon, respectively.
