Earthmovers are busy, preparing the land for a high-tech movie theater on Tucson’s south side.

Cinemark is building a 14-screen theater at the Tucson Marketplace at the Bridges, near Park Avenue and Interstate 10, home to a Costco and a Walmart.

The theater will feature powered reclining seats with footrests and wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling screens, with 3D capability in seven auditoriums. Building permit information is not yet available because the new facility hasn’t been assigned an address.

The company anticipates opening the new theater by summer.

From high-tech entertainment on the south side to old-fashioned TLC on the north side: Construction is also underway at 2720 E. River Road for a new senior-living facility.

A $19.9 million building permit has been issued for the 44,669-square-foot project at 2720 E. River Road.

The facility is owned by Watermark Hacienda Tucson LLC, and the general contractor is Weitz Co.
