The $3 million expansion of Mesquite Valley Growers, at 8005 E. Speedway, includes a greenhouse, plant pharmacy, indoor checkout counters, a snack shop and 140 new parking spaces over one acre.

Plant lovers will soon have more shopping options for succulents and tropicals.

Mesquite Valley Growers has a $3 million expansion underway at its East Speedway location.

The one-acre expansion will include a green house, plant pharmacy, indoor checkout counters and a snack shop, said Cathy Bishop, the general manager. There will be 140 parking spaces added.

She hopes it will be open in the fall with a grand reopening in the spring of 2017.

Rocking M Construction is the general contractor on the 51,000-square-foot project.

Other construction activity happening around town:

  • A worship center is being built at 4625 E. River Road. St. Francis in the Foothills United Methodist Church got a $1 million permit for the 9,000-square-foot building. Epstein Construction LLC is the general contractor.
  • Sunnyside Pointe Villas is adding seven freestanding homes to its affordable senior living community near Irvington Road and Park Avenue. The $720,000 building permit is for four 742-square-foot homes and three 902-square-foot homes. Pepper Viner Development is the general contractor.
  • The Walgreens at 8260 S. Houghton Road is getting a $545,000 fuel canopy and kiosk. Roscorp is the general contractor on the 7,000-square-foot project.
  • A 5,600-square-foot Ace Hardware store is under construction at 16225 W. Ajo Way. E.J. Ornelas Architecture is the general contractor on the $430,000 project.
  • Bealls Outlet is getting ready to move into Tucson Place at 605 W. Wetmore Road. Badabo Construction is the contractor on the $500,000, 18,000-square-foot store.
  • Chuze Fitness is going up near Ajo Way and Interstate 19. Epstein Construction is the contractor on the 19,000-square-foot gym. The project permit was for $452,000.
  • Mystic Rhythms Ballroom will soon be open at 8035 N. Oracle Road. Grail Construction is the contractor on the 3,000-square-foot, $382,000 project.
