Vector Space Systems P-19 rocket in flight.

Tucson-based Vector Space Systems intends to open a manufacturing facility here to make rockets that will launch small satellites into space.

Over three years, the facility is expected to create 200 local jobs locally. The average annual salary is expected to be about $70,000.

The company says it plans to invest roughly $19 million during those same three years, and possibly as much as $19 million over the next 15 years.

An analysis by Phoenix-based Applied Economics estimated that the total direct economic impact of the facility could be $290 million over five years, according to a news release from Pima County.

β€œVector Space Systems has decided to make Tucson the home for its headquarters and manufacturing facilities by relocating to the Pima County Aerospace, Defense and Technology Business & Research Park,” company founder and CEO Jim Cantrell said in a news release.
