A new car vending machine launched in Tempe seeks to switch up the car-buying experience.

Carvana, an e-commerce platform for buying used cars, launched its largest car vending machine — a nine-story glass tower capable of holding up to 34 vehicles — in the company’s hometown of Tempe.

Tempe joins 11 other cities across the country that are home to Carvana car vending machines.

Customers can shop thousands of vehicles, finance and purchase a car at Carvana.com and schedule as-soon-as-next-day delivery or car vending machine pickup in as few as 10 minutes.

Those picking up from the vending machine receive an oversized commemorative coin to activate the process and transport the car into the delivery bay. The pickup process typically takes minutes. The vehicles come with a seven-day return policy.

Each vehicle passes a 150-point inspection, have never been in a reported accident and have no frame damage.

Located at 707 E. Gilbert Drive, the Tempe car vending machine is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Car vending machine pickup is free.

For customers living outside of the Phoenix area who would like to pick up at the vending machine, Carvana will subsidize $200 in airfare and arrange transportation from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
