A locally owned music store is expanding its presence on the city’s east side.
Instrumental Music Center has leased a storefront, next to its existing shop at Speedway and Kolb Road, adding 1,400 square feet.
Inside the new space are six repair benches, including a large brass bench for repairs on tubas and sousaphones. The move helped owners Michael and Leslie Faltin expand the string repair department.
Opened in 1999, IMC would get one or two boxes a day with instruments in need of repair.
“Now, we are getting pallets of musical instruments and accessories almost daily,” Leslie Faltin said. “We have secured several state contracts, making it easier for schools to place order with IMC, increasing our business even more.”
The shop’s repair benches are outfitted with compressed air lines, custom-task LED lighting and bench motors.
Along with repairs, the shop sells band and orchestra instruments, guitars, drums and print music.
