Tucson-based Hughes Federal Credit Union announced it reached its 100,000th member-owner, after seeing its membership rate double in size since 2009.

The 100,000th member-owner, Maria Reyes, was presented a $1,000 check on July 29 when she opened an account at Hughes’ Wetmore branch, the credit union said in a news release.

To mark the milestone, Hughes will be giving away prizes until Aug. 19 through its Facebook page: Facebook.com/HughesFCU.

University of Arizona basketball coach Sean Miller, who appears in advertising for Hughes, has a "100,000 Thanks" video message about the milestone at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AH_lA5mZ11U

Established in 1952, Hughes is a locally owned and operated financial cooperative.
