  • La Posada: Two senior staff members at the retirement community in Green Valley received Arizona LeadingAge’s 2017 Innovation in Technology Award. Steve Kolnacki, director of home and community services, and Jerry Weygint, information technology director, received the annual award for the creation of the Connect: Green Valley app. The free app is a source of information and solutions for people seeking health, wellness and other life-enriching community services in Green Valley.
  • Kartchner Caverns: The state park has been named the β€œBest Arizona Attraction” by USA Today. Last year, Kartchner also won the β€œBest Cave in the USA” award from the same Readers’ Choice group. Kartchner Caverns bested the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
  • Planetary Science Institute: Senior Scientist Henry Throop has been awarded a 2017 Carl Sagan Medal for excellence in public communication by the Division for Planetary Sciences of the American Astronomical Society. Throop was honored for his efforts to β€œkindle interest in worlds beyond Earth throughout the developing world.” The Planetary Science Institute is a private, nonprofit corporation dedicated to solar system exploration. It is headquartered in Tucson where it was founded in 1972.
