  • Southern Arizona Home Builders Association: SAHBA will present its second annual Legacy Awards to John Wesley Miller, the late David Greenberg and Southwest Gas. The Legacy Awards, which will be held on Feb. 3, are in recognition of individuals and businesses that have made a positive, lasting impact on the local home building industry. Miller is a recognized national leader in green building standards, a former Chairman of SAHBA’s Executive Board and Senior Life Director of the National Association of Home Builders. Greenberg was a long time executive in the local homebuilding industry and former Chairman of SAHBA’s Executive Board.
  • University of Arizona: Has received a 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund award through a federal initiative to expand higher education partnerships in environmental sciences in the Western Hemisphere and increase study abroad opportunities for students at the UA and in Latin America. The grant will support 10 graduate students at the UA and partner universities pursuing dual master’s degrees in environmental sciences and engineering, in a coordinated curriculum focused on water sustainability and reuse. The program enables teams of students to work and study together. Students spend one year at their home institution and the other at a participating university in another country. The UA’s partner universities are the Federal University of Pernambuco and Federal University of Minas Gerais, both in Brazil; the University of ConcepciΓ³n in Chile and the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
  • Town of Oro Valley: Mayor Satish I. Hiremath was presented with the 2017 national award for Local Arts Leadership for cities with a population under 100,000. The award was presented by the Americans for the Arts and the United States Conference of Mayors. Hiremath is one of only two mayors nationwide to receive this honor. β€œMayor Hiremath understands the important role the arts play in advancing the economy and uniting communities, and his ability to motivate and organize others has had a lasting effect on his community and the surrounding region,” said Robert L. Lynch, president and CEO of Americans for the Arts.
  • Vantage West Credit Union: Received the 2017 Seal of Distinction from WorldatWork, a nonprofit human resources association and compensation authority. The honor recognizes the credit union’s commitment to employee engagement and total rewards effectiveness. The Seal of Distinction is awarded to companies that meet defined standards of workplace programs, policies and practices weighted on several factors, such as the complexity of implementation, required organizational resources, perceived breadth of access and overall level of commitment from leadership.
