Canyon Ranch

Canyon Ranch opened its doors in 1979. On the first day, there were eight guests, only one of whom was a paying customer.

After nearly 40 years, the founders of Canyon Ranch announced their retirement from the legacy brand.

The announcement fromΒ founders Melvin and Enid Zuckerman, along with Jerrold Cohen, was made Thursday.Β

Canyon Ranch is now headed by Chief Executive Officer Susan Docherty, who was first appointed to the position in 2015. The brand has plans to carry on the company's mission of wellness, inspiration and innovation.

Canyon Ranch expanded the concept of a health resort by introducing a comprehensive professional approach, with a staff that includes board-certified physicians, registered dieticians, exercise physiologists, licensed therapists and other highly skilled staff.

Mel and Enid Zuckerman and Cohen are reputed for sparking a movement in the health and wellness industry with the launch of their flagship property Canyon Ranch in Tucson in 1979. Since then, the brand has opened doors to sister resorts in Lenox, Massachusetts and Kaplankaya, Turkey, and operates numerous brand extensions including the Canyon Ranch SpaClub at The Venetian & The Palazzo hotels in Las Vegas, and Canyon Ranch SpaClub at Sea facilities onboard Cunard's Queen Mary 2 luxury ocean liner, Oceania, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, and on Celebrity Cruises.

β€œTheir vision of transformation through holistic wellness has had a profound effect on tens-of-thousands of lives, including my own, and I wish them a fulfilling retirement embodying the Canyon Ranch lifestyle they created," saidΒ John C. Goff, chairman and CEO of Crescent Real Estate Holdings, owner of Canyon Ranch.Β
