• Woodcraft of Tucson: Volunteer woodturners and Woodcraft retail store employees across the country worked together to produce 13,720 one-of-a-kind wood pens during the Woodcraft Turn for Troops National Turn-a-Thon. The pens have been shipped to military personnel on active duty or recovering in rehabilitation centers. The Tucson location was the top store in number of pens contributed in 2016: 1,686. It is also the top store in number of pens contributed over the 13 years the event has been held.
  • Southwest Gas: Employees from Southwest Gas have donated nearly $21,000 to the Humane Society of Southern Arizonaโ€™s new animal welfare center. The new building will be located at 635 W. Roger Road. The Puppy Pen Room, which includes four individual puppy pen habitats, will be named for Southwest Gas Fuel for Life.
  • Loweโ€™s: The home improvement store partnered with Tucson Country Day School for the charter schoolโ€™s third campus beautification day. At least 10 store employees volunteered to spruce up the school with planters, complete with soil and flowers. Other projects included staining the school stage, painting trash cans, building benches around flower gardens and putting in new shade.
  • Trusting Connections: For the second year, the local nanny agency and sitter service opened its doors to Tucson Girl Scouts looking to perfect their cookie sales pitches. Co-founders Rosalind Prather and Caroline Malkin invited Girl Scouts to make a brief sales pitch before inviting them to draw from a jar containing notes indicating how many boxes the agency would buy, ranging from one to 25 boxes. The women then donated the boxes of cookies back to the Girl Scouts Gift of Caring program.
