Motorists near the University of Arizona will soon see the skeleton of the new hospital tower on the rise.

A $187 million building permit has been issued for the steel structure and stairs of the future tower at Banner-University Medical Center Tucson.

The 670,000 square-foot, nine-story hospital tower is under construction west of the existing hospital.

Completion of the $400 million project is expected in 2019.

Other construction activity around town includes:

  • A $1.1 million permit for 8,642 square feet of senior living homes in the Sunnyside Pointe development, just south of Park Avenue and Irvington Road. Eleven freestanding homes are being built at 811 E. Landers Drive, part of a 92-unit community.
  • A self-storage facility is under construction at 5010 N. First Ave., near River Road. The permit for the 33,280-square-foot building was $2.8 million.
  • Old Dominion Freight is building a $1.9 million, 20,000-square-foot cross-dock terminal at 3375 E. Corona Road, east of the airport.
  • A $1.5 million building permit was issued for the second phase of a Muslim Community Center at 5100 N. Kevy Place. The 11,900-square-foot center is near River Road and La Cañada Drive.
  • La Paloma Academy at 8140 E. Golf Links Road is getting a new cafeteria. A $1.2 million permit was issued for the 9,400 square-foot project.
  • A $826,964 Dove Mountain Veterinary Clinic is going up at 12110 N. Dove Mountain Blvd., and will have more than 6,600 square feet of medical space.
  • Dorado Country Club Estates is getting a 6,700-square-foot clubhouse on the golf course. The permit was for $800,115.
  • A 10-resident adult home is under construction at 4185 N. Garden View Circle. The $529,239 permit was issued for about 4,000 square feet.
  • Vantage West Credit Union is undergoing a $6.2
  • million remodeling at its of
  • fices at 2480 N. Arcadia Ave.
  • The Sheraton at 5151 E. Grant Road got a $750,000 permit to remodel its rooms.
