The Yard is taking shape.
Land at the site of the former Grant Road Lumber is being cleared for the entertainment and dining complex under development by restaurateur Sam Fox.
A $3 million building permit has been issued for The Yard Restaurant, a 19,000-square-foot complex that will feature a covered yard with couches, fireplaces and games. A 150-seat dining room called The Coop will hold private parties, weddings and corporate events.
One restaurant already announced for the site is Culinary Dropout, a gastropub.
Grant Road Lumber closed last summer after 66 years in business at 2543 E. Grant Road.
Fox hopes to open The Yard next fall.
Other construction activity around town includes:
- Walmart is under construction at Amphi Plaza, on Fort Lowell Road at First Avenue.
A $3.8 million building permit was issued for the new 43,000-square-foot store at the site of a former Food City.
- A $2.2 million permit has been issued to International Towers Inc. for construction of a 19,639-square-foot facility at 8061 W. Tangerine Road.
- Oak Creek Homes received $1 million in permits for two assisted-living facilities at 4149 and 4179 N. Garden View Circle.
- Dollar Tree will be opening a $920,000 store in 9,900 square feet at 8020 N. Cortaro Road.
- Planet Fitness got a $779,000 permit for a facility in the Tucson Marketplace, 1125 E. Marketplace Blvd.
