MAP Dashboard graphic highlights teacher wage disparities.

The MAP Dashboard, an economic data project of the University of Arizona Eller College of Management, won a national award for its use of compelling graphic design to demonstrate teacher wage disparities across 12 metropolitan areas in the western United States.

The Association of Public Data Users selected the MAPโ€™s โ€œfuel gaugeโ€ graphic on teacher wages for its annual Data Viz Awards.

The visualization used a stylized fuel gauge to compare the median wages of Tucsonโ€™s secondary school teachers ($37,690) to those of 11 peer metropolitan areas and the U.S., all of them higher than Tucsonโ€™s.

Making Action Possible for Southern Arizona โ€” referred to as the MAP Dashboard โ€” is a partnership with the UAโ€™s Eller College, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona and the Southern Arizona Leadership Council.

โ€œWe strive to make the data accessible and interesting, which is why the MAP is used by the media and in classrooms and boardrooms across Southern Arizona,โ€ said Jennifer Pullen, MAP Dashboard coordinator.

An infographic featuring a fuel-gauge graphic and other MAP data is published on the last Sunday of each month in the Arizona Daily Star and on Tucson.com.
