The Bailey home was photographed in 1960. It had been built as an experimental house โ one of five homes in Tucson built of perlite block. The home was designed for an active family, including three children.

There's many a musical evening at the Bailey home. Besides the piano, Mr. Bailey has a violin and the whole house is wired for sound.

"We don't have too much use anymore for those sleigh bells (hanging on the mantle)," laughed Mrs. Bailey. "But they were a favorite Christmas custom in Illinois."

The terrace covering consists of strips of sahuaro. "We made it ourselves, from going out and finding dead sahuaros, knocking them over and stripping the skeleton to risking our necks on the roof."
