Thousands of school students in the Tucson area joined thousands more around the country during walk outs on and off campuses to commemorate 17 students who died in a school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Many also protested gun violence and others advocated for gun rights.

Green died in a mass shooting in Tucson in 2011.

When Tucson High students marched, cone bystander screamed: “I’m so proud of you guys — you give me hope for the future.”
Students should be involved in the political process as much as possible, but the notion they will lead us towards paradise is sheer absurdity.
Marchers are invited to meet at 11 a.m. at Jacome Plaza in front of the Downtown library.
Tucson Unified School District Superintendent Gabriel Trujillo said he will propose a plan to the governing board that would cost the district about $300,000.
