Brandon Williams decommitted from Arizona and still had his options while Parker Jackson-Cartwright graduated. The only returning point guard on UA's roster was sophomore Alex Barcello so depth at the position was slim.
At a point in the offseason when most recruits were already signed or firmly committed to other schools, Sean Miller's quest to fill out Arizona's depleted roster led him to Samford point guard Justin Coleman.
The 5-foot-10 Birmingham, Alabama native originally played at Alabama for Avery Johnson, but transferred to play for Scott Padgett at Samford following the 2016 season.
At Samford, Coleman averaged 13.5 points and 6.6 assists per game and made the All-Southern Conference Second Team. He also tied Samford's single-game assist total with 13, twice.
Now at Arizona, Coleman was named Arizona's team captain along with Duke transfer Chase Jeter for the 2019 season. The Wildcaster caught up with Coleman to discuss his role, why he selected UA and adjusting to life in Tucson.
