Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Tucson-area schools

The Arizona Daily Star has put a hold on this database showing confirmed COVID-19 cases in Tucson-area schools. Due to the sheer number of cases, updating the spreadsheet became unmanageable.
Education reporter Danyelle Khmara compiled this list based on tips from the community that she was able to confirm and by filing public record requests. By December there were around 1,000 confirmed cases in schools, many more than are on the spreadsheet.
Additionally, following the full or partial closures at two campuses in August, Tucson Unified School District, the city’s largest school district with about 42,500 students, has refused to confirm or deny cases when contacted by the Star.
Tucson’s eight other major school districts were confirming cases when contacted by the Star, and many since have created their own public databases of cases.

Schools can decide on their own when they have an outbreak, which necessitates reporting coronavirus cases to public health officials. And even those who are reporting all cases to health officials are not always telling everyone who came into the school about positive cases.
Two staffers at Esmond Station K-8 School who tested positive for COVID-19 had contact with students and other staffers throughout the campus.
