The owners of Three Wells Distilling are about to make it easier to sample craft spirits produced across Arizona all in once place.
Matthew Montgomery and Christopher Dudding are in the process of converting the space that once housed Perri Jewelers, at 13 N. Stone Ave., downtown, into an off-site tasting room that will not only serve their spirits, but craft-distilled products from all over the state.
Series 19 (named for the liquor license needed for a distiller to run a remote tasting room) will offer cocktails, neat pours and packaged bottles, with local mixologist Tafao Faumuina running the show.
“It will run the gamut from rye to single malts, vodkas, gins, our prickly pear spirits,” Montgomery said. “We always wanted to be able to promote the craft distilling movement in Arizona. People are doing such cool things here.”
Montgomery and Dudding will continue to produce their own spirits at their production facility at 3780 E. 44th St., in the same business/industrial area as Ten Fifty-Five Brewing, Copper Mine Brewing, Green Feet Brewing and Nimbus.
Montgomery said they are happy with their original location, but it wasn't the right fit for a fully stocked tasting room.
“There isn’t a lot of traffic,” he said. “You have to work to bring people down there. There are already so many people coming to the downtown area, especially on weekends.”
Montgomery said Series 19 will be equipped with a 17-foot bar, standalone tables and maybe a couch or two for comfort purposes.
The tasting room will also offer classes on topics such as creating your own cocktails and making ginger beer.
Montgomery said they hope to have Series 19 open Wednesdays-Sundays by mid-March.
