True Concord Voices & Orchestra's CD "Far In the Heavens — Choral Music of Stephen Paulus" debuted at No. 13 on Billboard's Traditional Classical charts this week.
It's the latest nod for the CD, released on Sept. 11 — the same day the Tucson ensemble made its debut at New York City's Lincoln Center in a concert that included Paulus's "Prayers and Remembrances," a piece True Concord commissioned from Paulus.
Paulus died in October, 18 months after suffering a devastating stroke. One of his final big projects was working with True Concord on the recording at Catalina Foothills High School.
True Concord opens its 2015-16 season with "Fanfare!" including John Rutter’s exuberant "Gloria" in celebration of the composer's 70th birthday. Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday, October 2, at Valley Presbyterian Church, Green Valley; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, October 3 at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church; and 3 p.m. Sunday, October 4 at First United Methodist Church.
