There’ll be baby goats and cowboy cuisine

Head south a spell for a trip back in time as part of Anza Day at Canoa Ranch this Sunday.

The 4,800-acre ranch was the first stop for Juan Bautista de Anza, the lieutenant colonel in the Royal Spanish cavalry who led an expedition into northern California in 1775.

The ranch will celebrate his journey with a new Anza Expedition exhibit, an appearance from the Anza Coalition Color Guard and authentic chuck-wagon cuisine.

The event, now in its second year at Canoa Ranch, will also have on view baby goats, chickens and calves courtesy of the Green Valley/Sahuarita 4-H, along with heavy duty, old school tractors and other big machines from the collector group, Power from the Past.

Anza Day will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free. Canoa Ranch is at 5375 S. I-19 Frontage Road in Green Valley. Call 724-5566 for more information.

Deschutes Alley Party has food, music, too

Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery is wrapping up a weeklong public relations tour in Tucson with a β€œstreet fare” in the Herbert Avenue Alley between the Cadence student housing complex and the Rialto Theatre this Saturday.

The fare refers to the food that will be offered by local chefs at the event.

Sun Bones, Carlos Arzate & the Kind Souls, Leila Lopez and Crosscut Saw will provide the tunes.

The music is free. The food and beer are not, but part of the proceeds from those purchases will go toward the upkeep of the Rialto.

The fun begins at 4 p.m. Visit rialtotheatre.com or call 740-1000 for more information.
