For her special day, treat her to the best of the best: The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain. The Marana resort’s spacious downstairs restaurant, Core Kitchen and Wine Bar, boasts a lavish breakfast buffet with endless plates of smoked salmon, artisanal cheeses and a build-your-own omelet bar.
But for the ultimate display of decadence, skip the mimosas and order the Bacon Bloody Mary. It’s a big honking highball filled with peppery tomato juice and savory bacon vodka. The team infuses their own, throwing in ingredients like roasted chiles, cilantro, garlic and onion powder.
The Core drink is not one of those salad-in-a-glass varieties, with all manner of herbs, cucumber and celery packed in there. No, this one is all about the meat.
The drink comes relatively unadorned, aside from some green olives and a large slice of bacon that sticks up like a flagpole. The top half is fiendishly crispy, while the bottom half that’s submerged in the juice soaks up all the spice and the vodka. (Eating it is a kick in the pants! Or perhaps more accurately, in the skirt …)
When you take a sip, the vodka comes on strong, but it’s actually balanced out by the heavy tomato and salty umami of the pork. In other words, it’s not the kind of thing you want to drink on a full stomach.
