The University of Arizona district is all about learning — about poetry, history, art — you name it. The campus’ streetcar celebration is designed to acquaint you with some of what makes the UA such an exciting academic hub.

Friday, information tents will be set up on the campus near the streetcar stops at East Second Street and Warren Avenue and Second and North Olive Road near Main Gate Square. You’ll also find water and raffle tickets. All events are free unless otherwise noted.

Friday

8 a.m to 5 p.m. — Jim Click Hall of Champions, 1 National Championship Drive. Extended hours over the weekend means it will also be open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. UA sports heroes, winning teams and tales of trophies are packed into the hall.

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Tours of the UA Poetry Center, 1508 E. Helen St. The building is an architectural beauty and the library is stuffed with poetry books.

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — UA Museum of Art, 1031 N. Olive Road, is waiving the admission for the day. A don’t miss here: the Altarpiece of Ciudad Rodrigo in the permanent collection. It is considered to be one of the most important pieces to come out of 15th century Spain.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Farmers Market, Arizona Health Sciences Center Plaza, 1501 N. Campbell Ave. The Health Sciences Center is all about good health, and fresh, local vegetables are part of that.

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Sun-viewing telescopes, 1601 E. University Blvd., on the lawn of the Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium. This is one time you get to look at the sun — and learn about it, too.

11 a.m. and 1 p.m. — Steward Observatory Mirror Lab tours, 933 N. Cherry Ave., for the discounted price of $5. Space is limited; buy tickets at mirrorlab.tix.com/ScheduleCalendar.aspx?OrgNum=4634 A tour of the internationally known mirror lab gives you an idea of the UA’s important role in space research.

Noon — Faculty/Staff Choir performs “The Trolley Song” at North Olive Road and East Second Street. A mid-day song should cheer just about anyone.

5 to 6 p.m. — Hatha yoga at the UA College of Nursing, 1305 N. Martin Ave., Room 117. You’re tired from all the exploring; work it out at this yoga class.

8 p.m to midnight — A transportation film projected on the wall of the Harvill Building, 1103 E. Second St. The streaming movie traces Tucson’s transportation history, leading to the arrival of the streetcar.
