There’s little that’s cooler on a Tucson summer evening than jazz (OK, it’s cool in winter, spring and fall, too).

And this summer the Invisible Theatre gives us plenty of jazz in its Sizzling Summer Sounds. It’s also giving us classics from the American Songbook, Motown and a bit of the Beatles. They are all just as cool.

The cabaret series will be at Janos Wilder’s Carriage House, behind his Downtown Kitchen.

It’s a hefty lineup: Seven shows in two weeks. And it features local and national talent:

  • July 10 β€” The cabaret kickoff will feature lots of local talent: Rob Boone, John Bucchino, Katherine Byrnes, Armen Dirtadian, Julie Anne, Daniel β€œSly” Sliptsky, Christine Vivona and Jeffrey Haskell. Each will give you a taste of what they do best. As this is the opening, there will be champagne and finger food, as well.
  • July 11 β€” Katherine Byrnes and Jeffrey Haskell have collaborated for 25 years, so it makes sense they will spend an evening giving us the music of other collaborators, such as George and Ira Gershwin and Lerner and Lowe.
  • July 12 β€” Rob Boone, Christine Vivona and Ray Templin perform jazz with origins in such places as Chicago, New York and New Orleans.
  • July 13 β€” Julie Anne, Armen Dirtadian and Daniel β€œSly” Slipetsky pay tribute to Frank Sinatra and the amazing women that were his contemporaries, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Shore and Peggy Lee.
  • July 14 β€” Lauded cabaret singer Steve Ross will leave his New York City base to celebrate Bastille Day. Expect to hear French-accented tunes we first heard from Edith Piaf, Cole Porter and Jacques Brel.
  • July 17 β€” Pianist John Bucchino, the toast of New York City, brings his popular cabaret concert, which includes music by the Beatles and Richard Rodgers.
  • July 18 β€” Katherine Byrnes, Crystal Stark and Julie Anne, accompanied by Khris Dodge, will fill the evening with the sounds of Motown.
  • July 20, 21 β€” The great Ann Hampton Callaway croons jazz tunes from movies. Think β€œTaking a Chance on Love,” β€œAs Time Goes By” and β€œJust One of Those Things.”

All shows are $35, with discounts available, and begin at 7:30 at the Carriage House, 125 S. Arizona Ave. If you opt for dinner at Downtown Kitchen beforehand, there’s a 20 percent discount on your meal.
